Fiber laser development for LISA

We have developed a linearly-polarized Ytterbium-doped fiber ring laser with single longitudinal-mode output at 1064nm for LISA and other space applications. Single longitudinalmode selection was achieved by using a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and a fiber Fabry-Perot (FFP). The FFP also serves as a frequency-reference within our ring laser. Our laser exhibits comparable low frequency and intensit...

Fast - Discharge - Initiated KrF Laser

Intense laser emission has been observed from the KrF molecule formed by a chemical reaction initiated by fast-discharge circuitry. With a gas mixture of He:Kr:NF, = 500:50:1 and a sample pressure of 700 Torr, an output energy of 0. 8 mj was measured from a 25-nsec laser pulse (FWHM). Spectral analysis of the laser emission indicated laser action at 248.5 and 249.5 nm.

ADVANCED PULSED POWER CONCEPT AND COMPONENT DEVELOPMENT FOR KrF LASER IFE*

The Electra advanced pulsed power development program has the goal of developing and demonstrating pulsed power technology that is applicable for KrF (krypton fluoride) Laser IFE (inertial fusion energy). The application presents efficiency, lifetime and cost challenges that mandate the use of advanced pulse compression topologies. In turn, these advanced topologies require the development of c...

High Rep-Rate KrF Laser Development and Intense Pulse Interaction Experiments for IFE*

A high repetition-rate e-beam pumped Krypton fluoride (KrF) laser has been developed as a prototype of future IFE driver. A combination of power supply with high voltage magnetic switches and e-beam diode cooled by water and self heat-radiation is generating e-beam at 0.5 Hz. Laser oscillation at 1 Hz with output energy over 20 J is expected in near future. Intense short pulse (> 10 J, ~3 ps) h...

Characterisation of dentin surfaces processed with KrF excimer laser radiation.

In the present work, the surface microtexture and chemical changes induced in human dentin by laser processing with KrF excimer laser radiation using fluences ranging from 0.5 to 20 J/cm2 were studied by SEM, XPS and FTIR. Two distinct behaviours were observed in the evolution of surface topography. In some samples, the laser-treated surface remained flat, independently of the fluence used. It ...
